Warm temperatures and threats of rain greeted Thursday’s 82 golfers at the West Virginia Amateur Series event, presented by PSIMED, and hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), at Edgewood Country Club.
Mitch Hoffman of Hurricane won the Championship flight by two strokes with a three under par (-3) 68.
Parkersburg’s Cathleen Wong won the Women’s Gross flight scoring a three over par (+3) 74, while Charleston’s Katherine Chesley won the Women’s Net flight with a three over par (+3) 74.
Gary Schrickel of St. Clairsville, Ohio, won the Men’s Gross flight with a two under par (-2) 69, and Nick Martin of Huntington won the Men’s Net flight with a five under par (-5) 66.
“Our attendance just keeps climbing! Our opening event had a record 68 players. Today we had a new record of 82 golfers,” said WVGA’s Director of Women’s Golf and One Day Series Sarah Cole. “I want to thank Edgewood’s Head Golf Professional Craig Berner and his staff for their always welcoming hospitality and great course conditions.”
The West Virginia Amateur Series, presented by PSIMED, is open to anyone, male or female, of any skill level. Awards are given in several flights based on net and gross scores.
