Championship Pairings / Results

Qualifying: Players who are not exempt must qualify at one of the six qualifying locations. Players are only permitted to attempt to qualify once, and may not change qualifying venues once the entry deadline has passed. Starting times and qualifying position allocations will be released upon the closing of entries. QUALIFYING ENTRY DEADLINE IS MAY 9th.

2017 Junior Amateur Champion: Mason Williams

Eligibility: Entries are open to male amateur golfers with an active GHIN Handicap Index of 10.0 or less through a WVGA Member Club. Please Reference WVGA Policies and Procedures for further details.

Format: The WV Amateur is a 72-hole stroke play championship with the field cut to the low 50 players and ties at the completion of 36 holes.

Field Size: The maximum field size is 114 players

Practice Round: Each player is allowed two practice rounds (one on each of the courses). Practice round fees will be $75 ++ and will be paid directly to The Greenbrier Resort. (All practice rounds on The Old White, TPC will require the use of a forecaddie at a cost of $35 + gratuity if played prior to 3:00PM EDT). A maximum of two (2) golf carts per foursome will be allowed during practice rounds. Use of the range after play on practice round days and tournament days will be $20 (inclusive of tax) per participant. Please contact The Greenbrier Resort directly for availability of practice rounds.

Range Fee: Use of the practice range after practice rounds and competitions rounds will be $20 (inclusive of tax) per player.

Championship Yardage: Approximately 7,000 yards

Player Registration: Player registration will be held on Sunday, June 3rd between 10:00AM and 4:00PM under the main pavilion outside of the champions room. If a player cannot make registration, he must notify the WVGA that he is unable to make the registration deadline but will be competing in the championship.

Cart Fees: Players will be required to pay a cart fee of $25 ++ directly to The Greenbrier Resort prior to each round of the championship.

Spectator Carts: Spectator carts will not be permitted during this championship with the exception of a spectator who can provide an issued and active Handicap Permit. Final decision will be made by the WVGA Executive Director and Senior Director of Rules & Competitions.

Caddies: Caddies are permitted during the championship. Players are responsible for supplying their own caddie. Caddies may ride in golf carts if it adheres to the WVGA cart policy and their is an available seat. * WVGA Cart Policy – there will be a maximum of 2 carts per group and 2 individuals per cart. *

Pairings: Championship Pairings for Rounds 1 & 2 will be released by Wednesday, May 30th. A cut will be made after 36 holes and players will be re-paired based on scores.

Awards: The champion will be awarded The Greenbrier Trophy at the conclusion of play. The top 10 finishers will all receive trophies.

POY Points: State Player of the Year points will  be awarded to the top 20 finishers. Points will be awarded immediately following the conclusion of the championship.

Electronic Measuring Devices: Electronic devices that measure distance only are permitted for this championship.

USGA Groove Condition of Competition (Not in Effect): The USGA groove rules effective January 1, 2010 are NOT in effect for this competition.

Score Posting: At the conclusion of the championship each players score will be automatically posted as a “T” or tournament score to the GHIN handicap system. Please do not enter your own scores from the competitve rounds as this will result in a double post.

Withdrawal Policy: In the event of a tournament withdraw; the player must notify the West Virginia Golf Association Office at 304-391-5000 no later than one week prior to the tournament. If withdraw is made prior to tournament deadline, the player may receive a refund regardless of reason less a $20 administrative fee. For a withdraw made after the entry deadline, the player may receive a refund only if player has experienced a sudden illness or injury, and only if the West Virginia Golf Association is notified prior to the first round of the tournament. All refund request must be submitted in writing to the Senior Director of Rules & Competitions, Carter Page.
