The West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA) closed the 2025 Women’s Series season Tuesday at Big Bend Golf Club in Hurricane with a field of 56 golfers.
Today’s event was scored based on points, rather than strokes. Each team earned one point for a bogey, two points for par, three points for a birdie and four points for an eagle. In this case, higher points win.
Top honors in First Flight Gross, with a two-point lead, went to the team of Olivia Baker, Brenda Hartley, Michele Merritt-Able and Carol Varner of Wheeling, scoring 45 points. Tied for second, with 43 points each, were the team of Janice Allen and Judy Street, both of Daniels, Caroline Ramsey of Bridgeport and Lisa Younis of Shepherdstown, and the team of Angie Huck, Lynn Roth of Charleston and Daneen Shears and Diana Watkins, both of Elizabeth.
First Flight Net was led by the Baker, Hartley, Merritt-Able and Varner, with 60 points. They were followed by the second-place team of Debbie Howard of Poca, Judy Hutchins of Winfield, Lois Keener of Hurricane and Deama Watts of St. Albans, scoring 58 points. The third-place team, finishing with 54 points, included Huck, Roth, Shears and Watkins.
Second Flight Gross honors went to Margaret Coalter, Jennifer and Marianne Peyton and Katheryn Shurow, all of Hurricane, scoring 36 points. Tied for second, with 33 points, were the team of Mendy Bays of Kenova, Rachel LaFon, Cindy McDonie of Ironton, Ohio and Doris Wheeler of Catlettsburg, Ky., and the team of Brenda Bradley of Charleston, Kim Neville of Hurricane, Donna Panucci of Union and Connie Stewart of Milton
Top honors in Second Flight Net went to the team of Bradley, Neville, Panucci and Stewart, with 60 points. They were followed by Coalter, Peyton, Peyton and Shurow in second with 58 points, and Bays, LaFon, McDonie and Wheeler in third with 54 points.
“We were excited to host the final Women’s Series event of the year,” said Sleepy Hollow’s Head Golf Professional Jimmy Harrison. “We hope the women enjoyed the course and their time together.”
“We were thrilled to have a field of over 50 women turn out today for the final of our six-event 2025 Women’s Series,” said WVGA Director of Women’s Golf and One Day Series Sarah Cole. “This has been a terrific year, and we’re looking forward to a bigger and better series in 2026.
