Weather won the tournament, but Sam O’Dell won his sixth WV Mid-Amateur Championship

Wednesday’s final day of competition at the WV Mid-Amateur Championship featured the semi-final rounds in the morning before the afternoon’s final event. Sam O’Dell of Hurricane won his sixth West Virginia Mid-Amateur Championship, going 3 and 1 over Davey Jude of Kermit following the morning matches.

The 2023 Mid-Amateur Championship, presented by Pikewood Energy and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), battled unseasonably cold temperatures and wet conditions all three competitions days at Williams Country Club in Weirton.

In the early rounds, O’Dell defeated Jonathan Clark of Hurricane 3 and 2, while Jude won 1 up over Christian Brand of Scott Depot.

Williams’ Head Golf Pro Brian Grogan said, “It’s been cold, wet weather that was challenging for the players this week, but the winners overcame the elements each day.”
