The first day of the West Virginia Golf Association’s (WVGA) 2025 Four-Ball Championship on the Cobb Course at The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels with 104 golfers on 52 teams focused on ties in many divisions.
Leading the Championship Division of 11 teams, with a one-stroke lead at 10 under par (-10) 62, are Lee van Horn of Huntington and Noah Mullens of Milton. One stroke back at nine under par (-9) 63 at Jackson Woodburn of Scott Depot and Jack Michael of Huntington. Two strokes back at eight under par (-8) 64 are defending champions Corey Hoshor of Eleanor and Jeremy Vallet of Logan, 2023 champions Bryson Beaver of Elkview and Tanner Vest of Shady Spring, and Joseph Kalaskey of South Charleston and Ryan Bilby of Follansbee.
“We have a good field of golfers this weekend,” said Glade’s Assistant Golf Professional Cole Moore. “It’s a full field of 52 teams that gives us a chance to see lots of familiar faces, and that makes for a lot of fun. The course is in great shape and will be a good test for these elite amateurs.”
In the First Flight Division of 11 teams, the score was either three under par (-3) 69 or two under par (-2) 70. The five teams tied for first are Brian Anania and Chris Williams, both of Scott Depot, Andrew Johnson of Hurricane and Jonah Wilson of Daniels, Edward McCormick of Mount Nebo and Mark Strickland of Boomer, Hunter O’Neal and Ben Ramsey, both of Bluefield, Va., and Mason Weese of Charleston and Mitch Hoffman of Hurricane.
The Second Flight Division, with 16 teams, ended the first round with a three-way tie for the lead at even par (E) 72. Tied teams are Jason and Carl King, both of New Haven, Jeremy Thompson of Martinsburg and Owen Elliott of Falling Waters, and Alex Toler of Barboursville and Tanner Dorsey of Huntington.
A three-way tie highlighted the Third Flight, featuring 14 teams. Tied at four over par (+4) 76 are the teams of Tyler Toler and Chris Carter, both of St. Albans, Matt Walters and Jack Hunter, both of Berkeley Springs, and Grant Wilkerson and Andrew Martin, both of Fairmont.
“We had great weather today, and hope the rain holds off Sunday,” said WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack. “We have a great field of 52 teams this weekend.”
