“Last Chance” Qualifier for 106th WV Amateur Championship Adds Six

The sixth and “last chance” qualifier for the 106th WV Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Auto and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), took place on May 29 at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke.  Medalist honors went to Ludwig Balbuena of Hurricane, finishing at even par (E) 72.

Over 400 golfers from West Virginia have registered to qualify for this year’s Amateur Championship.  There were 69 players who suffered a 30-minute fog delay before the competition began for the final six openings in the Championship.  The other qualifying players from today were:

  • Caleb Osborne of Tunnelton, (+4) 76;
  • Isaac Hayes of Hurricane, (+5) 77;
  • Owen Estel of Morgantown, (+5) 77;
  • Gavin Martin of Scott Depot, (+6) 78; and
  • Blake Davis of Huntington, (+6) 78.

“We’re honored, once again, to host this event,” said Stonewall’s Head Golf Professional Mike Rogers.  “The course is a great test of golf for these players, just as The Greenbrier will be starting Sunday.”

“We appreciate Stonewall our ‘last chance’ qualifier, and the cooler temperatures and wet conditions were a challenge for the players,” said WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack.  “Mike Rogers and the entire Stonewall staff were great.”

United Bank is also a major sponsor.

The 106th Amateur Championship will take place June 1-4 at The Greenbrier, which has hosted the event 98 of the past 106 years.
