Holzophel Holds One-Stroke Lead at West Virginia Women’s Amateur

The 102nd playing of the West Virginia Women’s Amateur, conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), ended the second day of stroke play of the three-day championship at The Club at Cress Creek in Shepherdstown with yesterday’s leader Emily Holzopfel of Rayland, Ohio, holding a one-stroke lead at three over par (+3) 145 for the first two days.

Rounding out the top 10, with ties, at the end of the first day are:

  • Alyssa Zhang of Morgantown, (+4) 145;
  • Savannah Hawkins of Hurricane, (+11) 153;
  • Kimberly Eaton of Charles Town, (+13) 155;
  • Sara Veara of Berkeley Springs, (+17) 159;
  • Cathleen Wong of Parkersburg, (+17) 159;
  • Kailey Pettit of Moundsville, (+19) 161;
  • Daneen Shears of Elizabeth, (+27) 169;
  • Lisa Younis of Shepherdstown, (+28) 170; and
  • Karen Kinnett of Shepherdstown, (+29) 171.

The 2025 Championship will be decided on Tuesday.

“Our Superintendent Debbilee Anderson does an amazing job with this course, especially with four inches of rain and 100-degree temperatures for four days,” said Cress Creek’s Head Golf Professional Jeff Rosenberg.

“It’s just great fun watching the best female golfers play at the top of their game,” said WVGA’s Director of Women’s Golf and One Day Events Sarah Cole.
