Harold Payne takes WVGA Senior Series Low Round at Mingo Bottom

Harold Payne of Hurricane took his first Little General Stores Low Round of the Day at the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA) Senior Series event Thursday at Mingo Bottom Golf Club in Elizabeth, shooting a one over par (+1) 73.

Overall, 67 players enjoyed the cooler temperatures at today’s Senior Series event.  The Senior Series, which is presented by Little General Stores and conducted by the WVGA, is for players ages 50 and older.  Categories are: Senior, 50-59; Silver, 60-69; Gold, 70-79; and Diamond, 80+.

“We are pleased we get to host this group of WVGA senior golfers.  They’ve been great about spreading the word about this course,” said Mingo Bottom’s General Manager Billy Dotson.  “We feel like we’re mowing 24/7 to keep up with Mother Nature.  We’re glad the WVGA staff doe such a great job of making this easy for us to host.”

“Thank you to Billy Dotson and the entire Mingo Bottom staff for their course conditions, hospitality and enthusiasm,” said WVGA Director of Women’s Golf and One Day Series Sarah Cole.

In addition to Payne winning the Silver Gross category, other winners today were:

  • Senior Gross: Chuck Workman of Marlinton, (+7) 79
  • Senior Net: Jamey Little of South Charleston, (-3) 69;
  • Silver Net: Bill Orr of Vienna, (-3) 69;
  • Gold Gross: Rick Adkins of Flatwoods, Ky., (+10) 82;
  • Gold Net: Butch Freeman of Daniels, (+3) 75;
  • Diamond Gross: Gary Roush of Mason, (+17) 89; and
  • Diamond Net: James MacKnight of West Columbia, (+7) 79.
