Fifth Qualifier for 106th WV Amateur Championship Adds 18 From Esquire

The fifth of six qualifiers for the 106th WV Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Auto and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), took place on May 22 at Esquire Golf Course in Barboursville. Zach Chapman of Culloden earned today’s Medalist honors, finishing at even par (E) 72.

Over 400 golfers from West Virginia have registered to qualify for this year’s Amateur Championship.  There were 59 players competing Thursday for 18 qualifying spots and two alternates in the Championship.  The other qualifying players from today were:

  • Brian Morrison of Barboursville, (+1) 73;
  • Cole Kiley of Huntington, (+2) 74;
  • Jeremy Valley of Logan, (+2) 74;
  • Chase Wheeler of Prichard, (+2) 74;
  • Carson Sergent of Huntington, (+3) 75;
  • Grant Roush of Mason, (+4) 76;
  • Justus Mann of Chapmanville, (+4) 76;
  • Gavin Stollings of Chapmanville, (+4) 76;
  • Duncan Waugaman of Huntington, (+6) 78;
  • Taylor Fry of Lavalette, (+6) 78;
  • Connor Ingles of New Haven, (+6) 78;
  • Cole Burkhammer of Huntington, (+6) 78;
  • Kellen Pauley of Hurricane, (+7) 79;
  • Jamie Bailes of Huntington, (+7) 79;
  • Jeremiah Fizer of Huntington, (+7) 79;
  • Jeff McGraw of Princeton, (+8) 80; and
  • Andrew Agee of Huntington, (+8) 80.

The alternates are Cory Bruzda and Wyatt Maynard, both of Barboursville.

“We’re super excited to host this event and have all these great golfers from around the state see our course,” said Esquire’s General Manager Chase McWhorter.  “The course was in great shape, and I think the golfers really enjoyed it.”

“We appreciate Esquire hosting our fifth qualifier, and the cooler temperatures kept the golfers fairly happy,” said WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack.  “Chase McWhorter and his entire staff at Esquire Golf Course were great hosts for the day.”

The remaining qualifying date and location is:

  • May 29 “Last Chance Qualifier” at Stonewall Resort, Roanoke.

The 106th Amateur Championship will take place June 1-4 at The Greenbrier, which has hosted the event 98 of the past 106 years.
