Wednesday saw a break in the weather for the 36 golfers at the West Virginia Amateur Series event, presented by PSIMED, and hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), at Green Hills Country Club in Fairmont.
Jess Ferrell of Fairmont took his second Championship Flight title of the season, scoring one over par (+1) 71, following a scorecard playoff with Jeff McGraw of Princeton.
Daneen Shears of Elizabeth won the Women’s Gross flight scoring a 16 over par (+16) 86, while Bridgeport’s Lauren Ramsey took Women’s Net flight honors with a six over par (+6) 76.
Gary Schrickel of St. Clairsville, Ohio, won his second Men’s Gross flight this season with a five over par (+5) 75, and David Furman of Fairmont won the Men’s Net flight with a four under par (-4) 66.
Keaton Linger, pro shop manager for Green Hills, said, “We’re excited to host our first Amateur Series event with the WVGA. The grounds crew got the course in great shape for Wednesday’s players.”
WVGA’s Director of Women’s Golf and One Day Series Sarah Cole said, “We had a great day here at Green Hills with 36 golfers and I want to thank Shawn Linger and the entire Green Hills staff for hosting their first WVGA Amateur Series event.”
The West Virginia Amateur Series, presented by PSIMED, is open to anyone, male or female, of any skill level. Awards are given in several flights based on net and gross scores.
