Casingal takes second Qualifier for 105th WV Amateur Championship in Charleston

The second qualifier for the 105th WV Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Motor Company and Mercedes-Benz of Charleston and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), took place May 7 at Edgewood Country Club in Sissonville.  Christian Casingal of Morgantown was the Medalist of Tuesday’s qualifier with a two under par 69.  Other major presenters include United Bank and The Greenbrier.

Over 400 golfers from West Virginia have registered to qualify for this year’s Amateur Championship.  There were 66 players competing May 7 for 18 qualifying spots and two alternates in the Championship.  The other qualifying players from today were:

  • Ian Patrick of Huntington, (+1) 72;
  • Jeremy Vallet of Logan, (+1) 72;
  • Stephen McDavid of Scott Depot, (+2) 73;
  • Brian Morrison of Barboursville, (+2) 73;
  • Wyatt Burgess of Hurricane, (+2) 73;
  • Brett Mayo of Milton, (+2) 73;
  • Brandon Fivecoait of Vincent, Ohio, (+2) 73;
  • Chris Sauvageot of Tornado, (+3) 74;
  • Jeff McGraw of Princeton, (+3) 74;
  • Noah Mitchell of Charleston, (+3) 74;
  • Jared Gregory of Summersville, (+4) 75;
  • Brian Stuck of St. Albans, (+4) 75;
  • Cory Bruzda of Barboursville, (+5) 76;
  • Andrew Johnson of Hurricane, (+5) 76;
  • Jeff Whitman of Hurricane, (+5) 76;
  • Cade Burgess of Charleston, (+5) 76; and
  • Mike Keiffer of Scott Depot, (+5) 76.

The alternates are Brian Khoury of Charleston and Zan Hill of Daniels.

“We’re very happy to be at Edgewood Country Club to help determine our field for the West Virginia Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Auto, Mercedes-Benz, United Bank and The Greenbrier” said WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack.  “We are thankful for the cooperation of these seven premier courses in West Virginia to determine our Championship field.”

The remaining qualifying dates and locations are:

May 9 at Locust Hill Golf Course in Charles Town;

May 13 at Bridgeport Country Club, Bridgeport;

May 16 at Pipestem Resort and State Park, Pipestem;

May 20 at Guyan Golf and Country Club, Huntington; and

May 22 “Last Chance Qualifier” at Stonewall Resort, Roanoke.

The 105th Amateur Championship will take place May 26-29 at The Greenbrier, which has hosted the event 97 of the past 104 years.
