Carter Wins Sixth West Virginia Senior Open, Ridenour Wins Senior Division 

Pat Carter of Huntington won his sixth consecutive West Virginia Senior Open, finishing at two under par (-2) 142 for the two days, leading the closest competition by 10 strokes.  The championship, hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA) and taking place at the Raven Golf Course at Snowshoe, was open to both amateur and professional golfers.

“I’d like to thank the WVGA for another great tournament and Chet Guzek for having the course in such great shape,” Carter said.  “It was a blast.”

Rounding out the top five in the Championship Division were:

  • John Bumgarner, Scott Depot, (+7) 151;
  • Chris Daniels, Beckley, (+8) 152;
  • Chuck Workman, Marlinton, (+9) 153; and
  • Mike Boggs, Hedgesville, and David Loggins, Verdunville, tied for fifth at (+11) 155.

John Ridenour of Long Bottom, Ohio, won the five-player senior division at 16 over par (+16) 160, finishing two strokes ahead of Huntington’s Cledus Judd at 18 over par (+18) 162.  Rounding out the top five were Jim Freeman of Barboursville, Frank Mams of Hedgesville and Gary Gaskins of Bridgeport.

“It was a great two days, and fun to watch a Pat Carter classic,” said Raven’s General Manager Chester Guzek.  “We’re renovating bunkers and we’re making the course great for everyone in the state.”
