The Callaway Junior Tour, sponsored by Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal and hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), opened its two-day, 36-hole combined event Monday at Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington. The second day takes place tomorrow at Esquire Golf Course in Barboursville. Today’s event features a total field of 70 golfers aged 10 to 18.
Bentley Shirkey of Barboursville, playing in the boys 13-14 division, won the Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal Round of the Day for boys, finishing at one over par (+1) 72. Isabelle Studli of Fairfield, Pa., playing in the girls 15-18 division, won her third Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal Round of the Day this season for girls at eight over par (+8) 79.
Division winners were:
- Boys 12 & under: Graydi Flohr of Daniels, (+10) 81;
- Boys 13-14: Bentley Shirkey of Barboursville, (+1) 72;
- Boys 15-16: Seth Napier of White Sulphur Springs on a green-grass playoff, (+8) 79;
- Boys 17-18: Justus Mann of Chapmanville, (+3) 74;
- Girls 10-14: Valentina Aguilar of Elkins, (+12) 83; and
- Girls 15-18: Isabelle Studli of Fairfield, Pa., (+8) 79.
“We’re happy to have the kids here again. We’ve been hosting them for many years. Our greens are in perfect condition and the course overall is great,” said Guyan’s Head Golf Professional Rick Ellison. “We wanted the kids to have a great day here and looked forward to hosting kids from the Tri-State area and across West Virginia.”
“The first day of our 36-hole combined event went well for the older boys and girls playing,” said WVGA’s Director of Junior Golf and Core Services Lucas Ware. “Congrats to Bentley and Isabelle on their wins today!”.
