The West Virginia Mid-Amateur Championship saw four of the top golfers in the state tee off for the semi-final round on the third day of competition, hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), at The Pines Country Club in Morgantown. By the end of the day, Thursday’s semi-final matches were set, and Christian Brand of Hurricane was the champion.
Following the stroke play round and Round of 32 on Tuesday, the Round of 16 and quarterfinals on Wednesday, Christian Brand of Hurricane, Davey Jude of Kermit, Noah Mullens of Milton and Josh Arbaugh of Morgantown faced off in the semi-final round on Thursday.
In the Semi-Final Round, Brand defeated Jude 1 up, while Mullens defeated Arbaugh 4 and 3.
In the Championship Round, Brand overcame a strong challenge from Mullens, winning 3 and 2.
“This may have been the best Mid-Amateur Championship in recent years,” said The Pines’ Head Golf Professional Russell Reid. “With our greens in phenomenal condition, the weather and overall course conditions, there were plenty of scoring opportunities this week.”
“This has been Christian Brand’s year. He won the West Virginia Amateur Championship in May and was fourth in the West Virginia Open earlier this month. This is the first time since 2017 that someone has won both the Amateur and Mid-Amateur in the same season,” said WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack. “We can’t thank Russell Reid and the staff at The Pines enough for their work to make this a great event.”
