The Callaway Junior Tour, sponsored by Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal and hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), visited Locust Hill Golf Course in Charles Town Thursday with a field of 30 golfers ages 10 to 18.
Tommy Evans of Charles Town, playing in the boys 15-16 division, won the Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal Round of the Day for boys. Isabelle Studli of Fairfield, Pa. won the Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal Round of the Day for girls.
Highlights of the day included six birdies and one eagle each for Evans and Adam Gill of Wheeling.
“Locust Hill Golf Course has traditionally hosted the Callaway Junior Tour. We are always excited to see the youth of the game come play and enjoy the challenge of Locust Hill Golf Course. Traditionally the scores are much higher than other locations and that is due to the overall challenge of the golf course,” said Locust Hill owner and general manager Wayne Clark. “What we love seeing is the kids persevering through the challenges of the course and completing their rounds. As always, Locust Hill Golf Course is the host of the future of the game for West Virginia. Last week we had eight former First Tee and Callaway Junior Tour players participate in the West Virginia Amateur and had five of them make the cut highlighted by three finishing in the top 10. Tommy Evans and Christian Boyd tied for 7th and Mason Kidwell, who played in his final Amateur event, finished 10th. Mason will be joining the Locust Hill Golf Course staff as our new Assistant Golf Professional, and he will be entering into the PGA Apprentice Program.”
Division winners were:
- Boys 12 & under: Matthew Riggleman;
