Following two Junior Match Play qualifiers for players under 18, conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), the final matches for girls and boys are set for Sunday at Parkersburg Country Club.
In the girls’ first round of eight players,
- Kerri-Anne Cook of Oceana defeated Lauren Cline of Mineral Wells 8 and 6;
- Audrey Kerr of Bridgeport defeated Anna Earl of Vienna 2 and 1;
- Savannah Hawkins of Hurricane defeated Scarlett Albertson of Charleston 3 and 2; and
- Brielle Milhoan of Vienna defeated Sidnea Belville of South Point, Ohio 5 and 3.
In the girls’ semi-finals, Cook defeated Kerr 8 and 7, while Hawkins defeated Milhoan 7 and 5. Cook and Hawkins will tee off at 8:00 a.m. Sunday for the Girls’ Championship match.
On the boys’ side, the first round of matches showed:
- McCartney Hinkle of Bluefield, Va. Defeated Cooper Ward of Beaver 2 up;
- Jack Michael of Huntington defeated Andrew Taylor of Summit Point 4 and 3;
- Jonah Wilson of Daniels defeated Stephen McDavid of Scott Depot 1 up;
- Andrew Johnson of Hurricane defeated Blake Lewis of Parkersburg in 19 holes;
- Jackson Woodburn of Scott Depot defeated Carson Higginbotham of Clarksburg 3 and 1;
- Argyle Downes of Charles Town defeated Gavin Goodrich of Wheeling 1 up;
- Alex White of Barboursville defeated Parker Vannoy of Mineral Wells 5 and 4; and
- Tanner Vest of Shady Spring defeated Andrew Pennybacker of Wheeling 5 and 4.
The Round of 8 showed Jack Michael over McCartney Hinkle 1 up, Andrew Johnson over Jonah Wilson 5 and 4, Argyle Downes over Jackson Woodburn 7 and 6 and Tanner Vest over Alex White 6 and 5.
Sunday will feature both semi-final and final rounds for the Boys’ Championship. Jack Michael and Andrew Johnson tee off at 7:45 a.m., while Argyle Downes and Tanner Vest tee off at 7:52 a.m.
