Chris Daniels of Beckley and John Bumgarner of Scott Depot are set to tee off just after 8:00 a.m. Wednesday to determine the 2025 West Virginia Senior Amateur Champion. The Championship, conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), is being played at Edgewood Country Club in Sissonville. In the Senior Division, Scott Bibbee of Vienna and Nevin Wilson of Hurricane will be playing for their division championship.
In semi-final match play in the Championship Division, Daniels defeated Dave Higinbotham of Daniels 5 & 4, while Pat Carter of Huntington defeated Hurricane’s Harold Payne 2 up. In the other semi-final bracket, Michael Koreski of Parkersburg defeated Bob Clark of Wheeling 3 & 2, and Bumgarner defeated Robert McPeak of Parkersburg 3 and 2. In the final round leading to Wednesday’s Championship, Daniels defeated Carter 2 up, while Bumgarner defeated Koreski 2 up.
In Senior Division semi-final match play, Bibbee defeated Cledus Judd of Huntington, 1 up, while Jim Freeman of Barboursville defeated Lee Cooperrider of Hurricane also at 1 up. In the other bracket, Wilson defeated David Eller of Barboursville 4 & 2, while Joe Crislip defeated Neil Christiansen, both of Parkersburg, 3 & 2. In the final round leading to Wednesday, Bibbee defeated Freeman 4 & 3, while Wilson defeated Crislip 2 & 1.
“The course was in great shape today, regardless of yesterday’s heat and today’s rain,” said Edgewood’s Head Golf Professional Craig Berner. “Our staff do a phenomenal job of keeping the course in top shape.”
