Callaway Junior Tour High School Series continues at Riverside Golf Club

The Callaway Junior Tour High School Series, sponsored by Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal and hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), continued its 2024 season with the WVGA High School Invitational at Riverside Golf Club in Mason.

Each school has a team of four players, with the best three scores counting as the team’s total score.  Today’s event, a partner of Callaway Golf and conducted by the WVGA, featured a field of 107 golfers on 27 high school teams from across West Virginia.

Cabell Midland A won the second event of the four-event series with a combined score of four over par 214.  Team members were Alex White, Carson Sergent, Wyatt Maynard and Cooper Childress.

The remaining schools in the top ten were:

  • Hurricane A, (+13) 223;
  • Parkersburg South, (+14) 224;
  • Winfield, (+25) 235;
  • Charleston Catholic, (+30) 240;
  • Hurricane B, (+30) 240;
  • George Washington A, (+33) 243;
  • Wheeling Central, (+34) 244;
  • Mary’s, (+35) 245; and
  • Cabell Midland B, (+36) 246.

The five players with the lowest individual scores received Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal Medalist trophies.  Those were awarded to:

  • Parker Vannoy, Parkersburg South, (E) 70;
  • Wyatt Maynard, Cabell Midland A, (+1) 71;
  • Cooper Childress, Cabell Midland A, (+1) 71;
  • Carson Sergent, Cabell Midland A, (+2) 72; and
  • Parker O’Dell, Hurricane A, (+3) 73.

“We’ve been looking forward to having the young people come see our course.  We love to see the competition in the summer months,” said Riverside’s co-owner Ty Roush.  “The course is in good shape, in part because we’re on the Ohio River.”

Teams participating today were from the following high schools: Buckhannon Upshur (2 teams), Buffalo, Cabell Midland (3 teams), Chapmanville Regional, Charleston Catholic, George Washington (2 teams), Hurricane (2 teams), John Marshall, Lewis County, Parkersburg (2 teams), Parkersburg South, Pocahontas County, Point Pleasant, Ravenswood, Roane County, St. Mary’s, Wahama, Weir, Wheeling Central, Williamstown and Winfield.
