2025 WVGA High School Series Continues at Oglebay Resort

The 2025 West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA) High School Series is a five-event individual and team series played on courses across West Virginia.

The third event of the Series, the WVGA High School Invite, took place Tuesday on the Jones Course at Oglebay in Wheeling and featured 27 four-player teams from throughout the state and two teams from Ohio.

The team from Cabell Midland High School in Barboursville took top honors, finishing at 14 over par (+14) 227.  Team members were Jackson Foster, Andrew James, Wyatt Maynard and Carson Sergent.

Rounding out the top five were:

  • Shady Spring High School, (+15) 228;
  • Hurricane High School, (+16) 229;
  • Wheeling Park High School, (+24) 237; and
  • Wahama High School, (+27) 240.

Cooper Ward of Shady Spring took low individual honors, finishing at one under par (-1) 70.  Rounding out the top five individuals were:

  • Wyatt Maynard of Cabell Midland, tied with Alexander Randolph of Bridgeport, (E) 71;
  • Parker O’Dell of Hurricane, (+1) 72; and
  • Grant Roush of Wahama, (+2) 73.

“We are happy to help the WVGA promote junior golf.  We support the Callaway Junior Tour with both an individual event and this High School Series event,” said Oglebay’s Director of Golf Operations Danny Ackerman.  “Course conditions have taken a bit of a hit this year in the fairways, primarily, but the greens are in excellent condition.  We had an unusually wet start to our summer, followed by some extreme heat, and that led to some patchy areas in the fairways that are recovering.”

“This event is always exciting because it has been the venue for the state high school championships for the last 20 some years. We were able to get an early preview of what schools may be contenders,” said WVGA Director of Junior Golf and Core Services Lucas Ware.
