2024 WV Two-Senior Scramble sees come from behind for win

The 2024 West Virginia Two-Senior Scramble Championship saw 21 teams tee off Friday at Pipestem Resort Golf Course hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA).

In the Championship Flight, Jerry Groves and Pat Ferrell of Maxwelton came from behind to take the win at 20 under par 124, defeating yesterday’s leaders, Chuck Workman of Marlinton and Jeff Harper of Coolville, Ohio, by one stroke.  Rounding out the top five teams are:

  • Joe Crislip and Neil Christiansen, both of Parkersburg, (-18) 126;
  • Brian Morrison of Barboursville and Scott McClure of Huntington, (-18) 126; and
  • John Ridenour of Long Bottom, Ohio, and Mitchell Roush of Mason, (-18) 126.

In the First Flight, three teams are tied for the lead at 12 under par 132, but Hank Middlemas and Gary Hawkins, both of Fairmont, won the Flight on a scorecard playoff.  Rounding out the top five teams (with ties) are:

  • Tim Dyer and Terry Warne, both of Bridgeport, (-12) 132;
  • Chester Smith of Parkersburg and David Shaffer of Wheeling, (-12) 132;
  • Terrence Beam of Daniels and Larry Powers of Craigsville, (-9) 135;
  • David Corbin of Charleston and Jeffrey Surface of South Charleston, (-8) 136; and
  • Danny Gill of Beckley and Kelly Bowman of Beaver, (-8) 136.

Steve Robertson, head golf professional at Pipestem Resort State Park, said, “It’s good to have new players at our course and our facility.”

“Scrambles are so much fun. I hope the ladies and seniors all had a great time this weekend under perfect weather conditions,” said WVGA’s Director of Junior Golf and Core Services Lucas Ware.
