2023 WV Club Team Championship sees many winners

The 2023 WV Club Team Championship, conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA) at Riverside Golf Club in Mason, crowned its champions today with Sleepy Hollow teams taking two of three team titles.

Winners of the Men’s Championship team from Sleepy Hollow, repeating for the second year, included Brian Anania, Chris Bohach, Christian Brand, Cory Hoshor and Bosten Miller, finishing with a combined score of one over par 279.  Other top five finishers included teams from Fincastle, Guyan, Berry Hills and Big Bend.  There were a total of 55 golfers on 11 men’s teams.

Winners of the Ladies’ Championship team from Glade Springs, repeating for the second year, included Jan Allen, Jared Porter, Karen Rainey and Judy Street.  The second-place team represented Sleepy Hollow, followed by Parkersburg and Big Bend.

Winners of the Senior Championship team from Parkersburg Country Club included Patrick Allen, Jay Kaufman and Cal Wood, finishing with a combined score of three over par 213.  The remaining teams represented Sleepy Hollow, Riverside, Guyan, Esquire and Big Bend.

Individual winners on the day were:

  • Men’s champion Christian Brand, Sleepy Hollow, two under par 68;
  • Ladies’ champion Savannah Hawkins, Sleepy Hollow, four over par 74; and
  • Senior champion Jay Kaufman, Parkersburg Country Club, two under par 68. Kaufman shot a hole in one on hole 11.

“It’s been a decade since we’ve hosted the WVGA Club Teams Championship,” said Riverside’s Bob Greene.  “We’re excited to host these great golfers from around the state.”
