The third day of competition in the 106th WV Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Motor Company and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), saw a tie for the lead on the Meadows Course between Owen Elliott of Falling Waters and Cam Roam of Huntington, both at seven under par (-7) 203 going into tomorrow’s Championship round.
Round Three on the Meadows Course was somewhat kinder to the scores for the 51 players participating in the final two rounds. “It is always a pleasure to work with WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack and his team,” said The Greenbrier’s Head Golf Professional Hill Herrick. “They do a great job for the players.”
Rounding out the top 10 after three rounds of play were Carson Higginbotham of Clarksburg, Brian Anania of Scott Depot, Nick Dent of White Sulphur Springs and Noah Mullens of Milton, all tied for third at one under par (-1) 209, Ryan Bilby of Follansbee and defending champion Christian Brand of Hurricane, tied for seventh at (E) 210; Jack Michael of Huntington in ninth at two over par (+2) 212 and Ryan Bashour of Morgantown in tenth at four over par (+4) 214.
Echoing Herrick’s comments, Astorg Auto General Manager Tyler Astorg said, “The WVGA staff works so hard to make golf better in West Virginia for all levels of players, and we’re proud to be able to support the West Virginia Amateur Championship for another year.”
“Owen and Cam are tied for first and lead the field by six strokes going into tomorrow’s Championship on the Old White Course,” said WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack. “With three former champions in the top 10, anything can happen, and Wednesday will be an exciting day for everyone!”
The 106th West Virginia Amateur will continue through June 4th at The Greenbrier, which has hosted this event 98 of the past 106 years, with the first tee time at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday on the Old White Course.
