The second day of competition in the 106th WV Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Motor Company and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), saw 2022 Champion Noah Mullens of Milton take a one-stroke lead on The Old White Course, finishing the day at two under par (-2) 68, for a two-day total of six under par (-6) 134.
Round Two on the Old White Course gave golfers a serious challenge. Following Monday’s round, the field of 120 was cut to 51 golfers for the final two days of play.
Rounding out the top 10 after two rounds of play were Owen Elliott of Falling Waters at five under par (-5) 135, Cam Roam of Huntington at three under par (-3) 137, Christian Brand of Hurricane and yesterday’s leader Brian Anania of Scott Depot, at two under par (-2) 138, Nick Dent of White Sulphur Springs and Jack Michael of Huntington at one over par (+1) 141, Mitch Hoffman of Hurricane and Ryan Bilby of Follansbee at two over par (+2) 142, and Tanner Vest of Shady Spring, Clayton Thomas of Proctorville, Ohio, and Carson Higginbotham of Clarksburg at three over par (+3) 143.
“Having our logo at The Greenbrier for this tremendous Championship is pretty special,” said Astorg Auto General Manager Tyler Astorg. “We want to help elevate the event and positively impact the players involved.”
“We looked forward to hosting the 106th WV Amateur for the 98th time and I have been involved with 41 of them,” said The Greenbrier’s Head Golf Professional Hill Herrick. “We have a great mix of younger players and seasoned veterans in the field moving on to the final two days of competition.”
WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack said, “We are excited to have the ongoing support of Astorg Auto and United Bank. In addition, it’s great to have six former champions, representing 10 years of winner, in the field this week. The next two days of competition will be something to watch.”
After the cut from 120 golfers to 51, in addition to today’s leader Mullens (2022), defending champion Christian Brand (2011 and 2024) and past champions Cameron Jarvis (2023), Philip Reale (2021), Brian Anania (2014) and Pat Carter (1995-2004, 2006, 2012) are still in contention.
The 106th West Virginia Amateur will continue through June 4th at The Greenbrier, which has hosted this event 98 of the past 106 years, with the first tee time at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday on the Meadows Course.
