The 101st playing of the West Virginia Women’s Amateur, conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), ended the second day of stroke play of the three-day championship at Bridgeport Country Club with Susan Glasby taking a one stroke lead over Sunday’s leader, Emily Holzopfel of Rayland, Ohio.
Monday’s second round of stroke play saw Glasby take the lead in the Championship Flight at six over par 150, leading Holzopfel and Savannah Hawkins who are tied at second at seven over par 151. Other leaders in the Championship Flight are Taylor Sargent of Milton in fourth and Kimberly Eaton of Charles Town and Cathleen Wong of Parkersburg tied for fifth. Stroke play continues Tuesday to decide the 2024 Championship.
“The course is in good shape, especially considering the weather,” said Bridgeport’s Head Golf Pro Mike Gervais. “We hope the players are seeing and enjoying the renovations we’ve made over the past three years, including a total rework of the bunkers.”
In the First Flight, the leader is Kailey Pettit of Moundsville, followed by Marra Johnson of Bridgeport in second, Ella Kefler of Marietta, Ohio, in third, Nicole Lincicome of Vienna in forth and Allison Ballard and Emma Nicol, both of Charleston, tied for fifth.
Fairmont has the lead in the Second Flight, with Leigh Chandler and Skylar Jefairjian tied for first, followed by Lisa Younis of Shepherdstown in third and Scarlett Albertson of Charleston and Karen Rainey of Daniels tied for fourth.
Taylor Sargent of Milton has the lead in the Overall Net division at two under par 142, followed by Audrey Kerr of Bridgeport in second and Allison Ballard of Charleston, Nicole Lincicome of Vienna and Kimberly Eaton of Charles Town ties for third.
This championship features 24 of the best female golfers from West Virginia from teenagers to seniors.
