(Bridgeport, WV) The final round of the 93rd WV Women’s Amateur got underway this morning at Bridgeport Country Club where thirty-eight players began their week competing for the most prestigious women’s amateur title in the state. Entering today with a five shot lead was 14 year old Chloe Schiavone who found herself even par after the first two rounds of competition. Sitting alone in second place was UAB golfer Sydney Snodgrass who looked to close that lead early in today’s round. Snodgrass started steady carding five straight pars to open her round and then capitalized with a birdie on the par-4 sixth hole to go one under on her final round. A costly double-bogey on the par-3 eighth hole put her back over par as she closed with an opening nine of one over-par, 37. After a bogey on the 11th Snodgrass gained momentum carding birdies on the twelfth and fourteenth holes to pull back to even on her round. Even with a birdie on the 54th hole of the event and carding a one under-par round, it wasn’t enough to catch Schiavone.
Schiavone who has set on a wire-to-wire lead all week struggled early in her final round. Her front nine 38 included one birdie and three bogeys. Two more bogeys then came on the eleventh and thirteenth holes and Schiavone found herself only one shot ahead of Snodgrass. Not looking to give up her lead, in which she had held all week, Schiavone birdied the par-3 sixteenth and then carded her second eagle of the week on the par-4 seventeenth. A par on the 54th hole was the final stamp as Schiavone captured the 93rd WV Women’s Amateur Championship by a three shot margin. Her final round of 74 gave her a three-day total of one over-par, 220, three shots ahead of Snodgrass. Sitting alone in third was Kimberly Eaton who posted a tournament total of nine over-par, 229. Marshall’s Pimrawee Huang placed fourth and Nicolle Flood-Sawczyszyn placed fifth after posting the only other under par round of the day.
Your flight winners of the 93rd WV Women’s Amateur Championship included a tie in the first flight between Patti Maroney and Karen Kinnett who both posted tournament totals of 256. In the second flight it was Lisa Younis who took an eleven shot lead over Beverly Toothman, and Bailey Frederick who captured the third flight with a tournament total of 307.
