(Davis, WV) For a second straight day players were welcomed with cool temperatures yet today yielded no rain which was a welcomed treat as the forecast coming into the week was less than favorable. As the course conditions were still a little wet from the weeks of rain that has hit the area Canaan Valley Resort provided a great test of golf over the last two days eventually leading to the crowing of our final senior state title of the year outside of the Club Team Championship which is scheduled to be played this upcoming Sunday at The Pines Country Club in Morgantown.

Heading into the day it was the team of Pat Carter & Jim Grimmett who held a two shot lead over four teams looking to battle back and challenge them for the title. Coming off a bogey free 66 the first day, Carter & Grimmett got off to a bit of a slower start today only carding two birdies in the opening nine holes. The duo found red numbers on the back however carding birdies on holes 10, 13, 14, 16, and 17. A single blemish on the card came on the difficult par-3 twelfth hole. The team fired consecutive rounds of 66 for a two-day total of twelve under-par, 132. Coming up just short of them was the team of Harold Payne and Steve Fox. Beginning the day two shots back, the team knew they had to have a special day to catch Carter/Grimmett and the two got off to a great start. Carding four birdies on the front, Payne/Fox headed to the back nine where they birdied 14, 17, & 18 to find themselves just one short of tying Carter/Grimmett for the title. Rounding out the top three was the team of Mitch Roush & Tim Mount who like Payne/Fox carded a second round of 65 to finish the tournament at ten under-par, 134.

In the Senior Division it was the team of Scott Bibbee & Bill Boyle who followed up their opening round of 69 with a second round of 67 to finish at eight under-par, 136. The duo played consistent golf throughout the two day championship as they never posted a bogey on any hole. There two day total of 136 was good enough for a three shot victory over the Runner-Up team of Tom Spriggs & Jim Carpenter who posted a second round 70 to finish at 139. Finishing in a tie for third at four under-par for the championship were the teams of Gary Knapp & Greg Daniel and Matt Martin & John Wolf.
