West Virginians earn qualifying and alternate spots in US Senior Amateur qualifying at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club

Pat Carter of Huntington was the sole qualifier in today’s 18-hole US Senior Amateur event at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club in Hurricane with an even par 72.

David Bumgarner of Scott Depot took one of two alternate spots with a two over par 74.  Jeff Golliher of Knoxville, Tenn., is the other alternate.

The West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), in support and collaboration with the United States Golf Association (USGA), conducted the US Senior Amateur Championship qualifier.  The Championship is scheduled for Aug. 12 to 18 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.

“We loved the opportunity to host an event of this caliber at this level, and to showcase Sleepy Hollow on a national state,” said JR Joy, Sleepy Hollow’s golf assistant.  “We’re happy to be part of this, especially when  we can provide good course conditions and good, if hot, weather.”

“We are honored to play host to one of the 19 final US Senior Amateur  qualifiers across the country,” said WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack.  “I’m always amazed to see where our participants call home.  In today’s field, players called six states home including West Virginia and Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.  We’re glad for the chance to let them experience at least a part of West Virginia.”
