The 16th annual Mid-Atlantic Junior Boys’ Invitational took place Oct. 19 and 20 at the Hermitage Country Club in Richmond, Va., and featured teams from West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia.
Following two days of play, the West Virginia team finished third behind Virginia and Maryland.
Each team has eight members, and the top six scores are used for each round of play, contributing to the overall score. Team members for West Virginia included Tyler Beard of Lewisburg, Solas Chhin-Kreiner of Morgantown, Tommy Evans of Charles Town, Cameron Fallon of Parkersburg, Jack Michael of Huntington, Parker O’Dell of Hurricane, Kellen Pauley of Hurricane and Andrew Sheets of Morgantown.
The Virginia team stole the show in the first round, finishing at nine over par. Maryland’s team finished in second at 49 over par, just four strokes ahead of West Virginia’s team. Individually, Tommy Evans finished in fifth at four over par 74, followed by Jack Michael at five over par 75. Beard finished in a tie for 14th, Chhin-Kreiner was tied for 19th, O’Dell was in 21st, followed closely by Fallon in 22nd and Sheets in 23rd.
In Sunday’s second round, Virginia finished at 10 over par, while Maryland finished at 27 over par. West Virginia fell behind, finishing at 64 over par.
Individually, Tommy Evans finished in fifth at four over par 148, followed by Jack Michael in sixth at five over par 149. Tyler Beard finished in 14th, with Chhin-Kreiner in 20th, Parker O’Dell in 21st, Cameron Fallon in 22nd and Andrew Sheets in 23rd.
“We are very proud of our team this weekend,” said WVGA Director of Junior Golf and Core Services Lucas Ware. “While we wish the results would have been different, our guys played their hearts out in this new environment.”
