The 79th Captain’s Putter Matches, featuring teams from West Virginia and Virginia playing teams from North and South Carolina, saw the Virginias defeat the Carolinas by a total score of 27 points to 21 points in three rounds of play. The matches took place at Bayville Golf Club in Virginia Beach, Va. Oct. 18 and 19.
The first round of play on Friday featured four-ball matches, with the Carolinas team finishing with a two-point lead, seven to five. Teams representing West Virginia included Noah Mullens and Sam O’Dell (1.0 point), Sam Beach and Christian Brand (1.0 point), Davey Jude and Cam Roam (0.5 point), Pat Carter and Ian Patrick (0.5 point). The second round of play on Friday featured foursome matches, with the Carolinas outscoring the Virginias 7.50 to 4.50. The teams of Jude/Roam and Carter/Patrick each earned one point, with Mullens/O’Dell contributing 0.50 point.
Saturday’s singles matches turned the tide, with the Virginias outscoring the Carolinas 17.5 to 6.5, aiding in the overall win. West Virginia golfers winning the individual matches included Sam Beach, Sam O’Dell, Davey Jude, Cam Roam, Christian Brand, Ian Patrick and Pat Carter, with Noah Mullens’ match ending in a tie.
