Team South took The Little General Cup for the seventh consecutive year at the 15th annual North-South Junior Team Matches, presented by Little General Stores and hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA).
The final score was 11 to 9, based on a format that included nine holes of scramble play, nine holes of modified alternate shots and nine holes of singles matches. “The majority of matches went the distance, and it was great to have the state’s top junior golfers competing together and against each other,” said WVGA Director of Junior Golf and Core Services Lucas Ware. “As always, thanks to The Resort at Glade Springs and host professional Jason Dalton for their hospitality!”
The 20 players represented the top junior players in West Virginia based on 2024 points. Three players finished with perfect 3-0 records, including Carson Higginbotham, playing for Team North and Kellen Pauley and Carson O’Dell, playing for Team South.
The matches took place at The Resort at Glade Springs. “We focus on junior golf and clinics here. These junior golfers are our future and it’s fun to watch them grow up,” said The Resort’s Head Golf Pro Jason Dalton. “The course is in great condition, and we haven’t been hurt by the colder weather. This is a great first WVGA event as the new Head Golf Professional here. I’m a ‘West Virginia boy’ who is delighted to have returned home.”
Team South included: Cooper Ward, Beaver; Rocky Frye, Bramwell; Scarlett Albertson, Charleston; Jack Michael, Huntington; Carson O’Dell, Parker O’Dell, Kellen Pauley, Hurricane; Tyler Beard, Lewisburg; Gavin Martin, Scott Depot; and Madilyn Buttrey, Williamstown.

“This event is all about the team aspects of golf,” Ware said. “Players getting to know other junior golfers from around the state during one of the most fun weekends of the year is something they’ll remember forever.”
