The West Virginia Mid-Amateur Championship, for golfers over 25, saw 32 golfers tee off on the second of three days of competition, hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), at The Pines Country Club in Morgantown. By the end of the day, Thursday’s semi-final matches were set.
Following the stroke play round and Round of 32 on Tuesday, Wednesday featured the Round of 16 and quarterfinals.
In the Round of 16:
- Christian Brand of Hurricane defeated Christian Casingal of Morgantown 2 up;
- Ryan Mason of Morgantown defeated Mason Weese of Charleston 6 and 5;
- Davey Jude of Kermit defeated Cam Roam of Huntington 2 and 1;
- Woody Woodward of Bridgeport defeated Jess Ferrell of Fairmont, 2 and 1;
- Sam O’Dell of Hurricane defeated Jeff McGraw of Princeton 5 and 4;
- Noah Mullens of Milton defeated Mike Keiffer of Scott Depot, 7 and 6;
- Josh Arbaugh of Morgantown defeated Bryan Myers of Wheeling, 7 and 5; and
- Kyle Wensel of Wheeling defeated Tad Tomblin of Alum Creek, 3 and 2.
In the quarterfinal round, Brand defeated Mason, 6 and 5, and Jude defeated Woodward in 20 holes, while Mullens defeated O’Dell 1 up and Arbaugh defeated Wensel 2 up to set Thursday’s semi-final match.
“The quality of players in this tournament is what makes this so exciting,” said The Pines’ Head Golf Professional Russell Reid. “With the single-match elimination format, the player with the most skill should come out on top tomorrow.”
