Second Qualifier for 106th WV Amateur Championship Adds Six at Locust Hill

The second qualifier for the 106th WV Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Motor Company and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), took place on May 13 at Locust Hill Golf Course in Charles Town.  Drew Call of Harpers Ferry was the Medalist of Tuesday’s qualifier with a score of six over par (+6) 78.

Other major sponsors include United Bank and The Greenbrier.

Over 400 golfers from West Virginia have registered to qualify for this year’s Amateur Championship.  There were 20 players competing Tuesday for six qualifying spots and two alternates in the Championship.  The other qualifying players from today were:

  • Dylan Carroll, Kearneysville, (+7) 79;
  • Lucas Riggleman, Petersburg, (+10) 82;
  • Lucas Watson, Hedgesville, (+12) 84;
  • Roland Wright, Shepherdstown, (+14) 86; and
  • Brady Reed, Kearneysville, (+14) 86.

The alternates are Evan Matlick of Keyser and Chris Hafner of Martinsburg.

“We are excited, as we are every year, to host players from the Eastern Panhandle and elsewhere for these qualifying events,” said Locust Hill’s Assistant Golf Professional Chris Neighbors.  “The course is in good shape, greening up just in time for today’s event.”

“We appreciate Locust Hill hosting our second qualifier,” said WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack.  “Owner and General Manager Wayne Clark offered us great course conditions and hospitality.”

The remaining qualifying dates and locations are:

May 16 at Pipestem Resort State Park, Pipestem;

May 20 at Edgewood Country Club, Sissonville;

May 22 at Esquire Golf Course, Barboursville; and

May 29 “Last Chance Qualifier” at Stonewall Resort, Roanoke.

The 106th Amateur Championship will take place June 1-4 at The Greenbrier, which has hosted the event 98 of the past 106 years.
