The third of six qualifiers for the 106th WV Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Auto and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), took place on May 16 at Pipestem Resort and State Park. Rain forced a three-hour delay in play late in the afternoon. Four players finished at one under par (-1) 71, earning Medalist honors. The four were Karson Terry of Peterstown, Chris Daniels of Beckley, Adam Sholes of Charleston and Isaac Hutchison of Lewisburg.

“It’s always great to host a WVGA event here, especially one that will bring out the best talent locally, from around the area and beyond,” said Pipestem’s Head Golf Professional Steve Robertson. “The course was dry Thursday, and we got most of the tournament off before the weather interfered and caused a three-hour delay. Mother Nature may have been Friday’s big winner.”
“We appreciate Pipestem hosting our third qualifier,” said WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack. “Steve Robertson and the Pipestem staff do a great job with the course.”
United Bank is also a major sponsor.
The remaining qualifying dates and locations are:
- May 20 at Edgewood Country Club, Sissonville;
- May 22 at Esquire Golf Course, Barboursville; and
- May 29 “Last Chance Qualifier” at Stonewall Resort, Roanoke.
The 106th Amateur Championship will take place June 1-4 at The Greenbrier, which has hosted the event 98 of the past 106 years.
