Payne takes second WVGA Senior Series Low Round at Riverside Golf Club

Harold Payne of Hurricane shot Tuesday’s Little General Stores Low Round of the Day at the Senior Series event, hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA) and sponsored by Little General Stores, at Riverside Golf Club in Mason at two under par 68.

The West Virginia Senior Series, which is presented by Little General Stores and conducted by the WVGA, is for players ages 50 and up.

“It’s wonderful for Riverside Golf Club to once again host a WVGA Senior Series event, and we’re honored to have such a good group of golfers,” said Riverside’s Head Golf Professional Mitchell Roush.  “We struggled throughout the summer, as did other courses, with the heat and the drought, but now we’ve had three inches of rain in recent days.  Now it’s like throwing darts at your ball’s location.”

Overall, 80 players enjoyed the WVGA the day’s Senior Series event.  Categories are: Senior, 50-59; Silver, 60-69; Gold, 70-79; and Diamond, 80+.

“It’s nice to see the courses greening up again after some recent area rain,” said WVGA Director of Women’s Golf and One Day Series Sarah Cole.  “We’re excited to have 80 golfers turn out in October.”

In addition to Payne winning the Silver Gross category, other winners today were:
