Christopher Neighbors of Charles Town was Medalist in the third qualifier for the 105th WV Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Motor Company and Mercedes-Benz of Charleston and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), on May 9 at Locust Hill Golf Course in Charles Town. Neighbors led the day with an even par 72. Other major presenters include United Bank and The Greenbrier.
Over 400 golfers from West Virginia have registered to qualify for this year’s Amateur Championship. There were 22 players competing May 9 for six qualifying spots and two alternates in the Championship. The other qualifying players from today were:
- Ryan Crabtree of Falling Waters, (+1) 73;
- Tyler Hardy of Charles Town, (+2) 74;
- Terry Mumaw of Charles Town, (+3) 75;
- Drew Call of Shepherdstown, (+4) 76; and
- Craig Pancake of New Creek, (+7) 79.
The alternates are Dylan Carroll of Kearneysville and Benjamin Capriolo of Charles Town.
“We’re always excited to host a West Virginia Amateur qualifying event. We think this tournament is the true definition of golf,” said Locust Hills’s owner and general manager Wayne Clark. “We wish all our members who qualified today good luck in the Championship. The course was in the best condition it’s been for a while, with greens running a shade over 10 and fairways and tee boxes filling in nicely.”

West Virginia to determine our Championship field.” The remaining qualifying dates and locations are:
May 13 at Bridgeport Country Club, Bridgeport; May 16 at Pipestem Resort and State Park, Pipestem;
May 20 at Guyan Golf and Country Club, Huntington; and May 22 “Last Chance Qualifier” at Stonewall Resort, Roanoke.
The 105th Amateur Championship will take place May 26-29 at The Greenbrier, which has hosted the event 97 of the past 104 years.
