Linden Meade - 2024

Linden Meade was born in Chapmanville, WV on March 3, 1937. He grew
up in Chapmanville and worked as a caddy at twelve years old at Logan
Country Club as a young boy and later moved into the pro shop so he
could have better golf playing privileges. He played for Chapmanville High
School where he won the WV state high school championship in 1955.

Linden married Patricia Ann Toney in 1958 and they had three children
Diana, Greg, and Brian. He attended Marshall University from 1955 to
1959 where he played collegiate golf. In 1956 Linden qualified for the US
Amateur played at Lake Forest, Illinois. While at Marshall he was selected
three times to the Mid-American conference team. In 1957 and 1959 he
was the runner up in the conference and 1958 he won the conference. He
set the 18 and 36-hole conference record. In 1957 his team qualified for
the NCAA and in 1958 he qualified for the NCAA as an individual where he
helped the East beat the West. In 1962 he played in the US Open at
Oakmont CC. He is a two-time WV Open champion in 1963 and 1984. The
1963 title makes him one of three men to ever win a WV Open that Sam
Snead played in. In 1971, Linden played on the PGA tour. He won the WV
PGA championship three times in 1964,1972, and 1976 over his career. In
1982 he was selected as the WV Chapter Player of the Year. Then in 1984
he was WV Player of the year. Later in his career he qualified for the US
Senior Open in 1988 at Medina CC and 1993 at Cherry Hills CC. In 1991,
he was inducted into the Marshall University Athletics Hall of Fame.
In 1959 to 1962 he taught at Logan High School where he started the first
high school golf team and later at Chapmanville High School and Man
Junior High School. He had two head professional jobs at Triadelphia CC in
Man and Logan CC. Linden sold insurance for John Hancock before taking
the head pro job at Riverview Country Club in Madison, WV.

Linden Meade has made a huge impact on WV golf over his lifetime
teaching the game of golf to young and old in southern WV as a PGA
teaching professional. Linden Meade resides in Chapmanville, WV.
