Jerry Groves of Maxwelton shot his first Little General Stores Low Round of the Day at Tuesday’s Senior Series event, hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA) and sponsored by Little General Stores, at Fincastle Country Club with a five under par 65.
“Thank you to Fincastle Country Club for hosting such a great day for our senior golfers,” said WVGA Director of Women’s Golf and One Day Series Sarah Cole.
“We’re always excited to have WVGA senior players here, especially those new to our course. It’s fun to see them play here on our course,” said Fincastle’s Director of Golf Hunter O’Neal. “The course is drier than usual, and a bit firmer, but still great!”
The West Virginia Senior Series, which is presented by Little General Stores and conducted by the WVGA, is for players ages 50 and up. The Diamond Division is sponsored by Donnie Smith and Emergency Physicians Resource Organization and John Bumgarner with State Farm.
Overall, 73 players enjoyed the WVGA the day’s Senior Series event. Categories are: Senior, 50-59; Silver, 60-69; Gold, 70-79; and Diamond, 80+.
In addition to Groves winning the Gold Gross category, other winners today were:
- Senior Gross: Bill Ray of Beaver, (+3) 73;
- Senior Net: Tim Bucklew of Morgantown, (-3) 67;
- Silver Gross: John Yost of Barboursville, (+1) 71;
- Silver Net: Bruce Hussell of Hartford, (-7) 63;
- Gold Net: Merrild Hoover of Hurricane, (-4) 66;
- Diamond Gross: Bob White of Hurricane, (+7) 77; and
- Diamond Net: Terry Whitfield of Moundsville, (-1) 69.
