First day in books for 2024 WVGA Senior Amateur Championship at Stonewall Resort

Bryan Myers of Wheeling and Ian Patrick of Huntington tied for the lead in stroke play on the opening day of play in the Championship Division at the 2024 West Virginia Senior Amateur Championship, conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), at Stonewall Resort.  Myers was aided by six birdies, while Patrick scored four birdies in the opening round.  Neil Christiansen of Parkersburg, aided by five birdies on the day, sit at the top of the Senior Division at three under par 69.

“It’s been a rough summer with the heat, but we’re looking forward to hosting the WVGA Senior Amateur Championship for some of the best golfers in the state,” said Stonewall’s Head Golf Professional Mike Rogers.

The first round of 18-hole stroke play was a qualifier to set the seeding for the remainder of the tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The 16 qualifiers in the Championship Division on Monday were:

In quarterfinal match play of the Championship Division, Myers defeater Adkins 3 & 1, Bumgarner defeated Workman 6 & 5, Westfall defeated Morrison, 5 & 4, Stemple defeated Fairbanks 7 & 6, Patrick defeated Harper, 6 & 4, Koreski defeated Davis in 19 holes, McPherson defeated Kingora 1 up and Clark defeated Judd in 22 holes.

In quarterfinal match play of the Senior Division, Carroll defeated Christiansen 2 & 1, Boyle defeated Crowe 3 & 2, Poling defeated Shaffer 3 & 2, Eller defeated Crislip 5 & 4, Kaufman defeated Freeman 1 up, Willis defeated Littlehales 8 & 7, Roy defeated Middlemas 1 up and Morgan defeated Carney 6 & 5.
