Cook and Lucas take Low Rounds of the Day in Callaway Junior Tour at Riverside Golf Club

A field of 63 golfers, aged 10 to 18, participated in the Callaway Junior Tour, sponsored by Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal and hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), Wednesday at Riverside Golf Club in Mason.

Kerri-Anne Cook of Oceana, playing in the girls 15-18 division, won her sixth Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal Round of the Day for girls this season, and third this week. Kelan Lucas of Ravenswood, playing in the boys 15-16 division, won his first Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal Round of the Day for boys in a playoff against Brady Meadows of Letart and Bentley Shirkey of Barboursville.

“We’ve been looking forward to hosting the Callaway Junior Tour.  These young golfers represent the future of the game,” said Ty Roush, owner of Riverside Golf Club.  “We need rain.  The greens are good, but the roughs are starting to burn.”

“The cool weather made for a nice day of golf. The Junior Tour will pick back up in 2 weeks after the West Virginia Junior Amateur at Canaan Valley Resort,” said WVGA Director of Junior Golf and Core Services Lucas Ware.

Division winners were:

  • Boys 12 & under: Bentley Shirkey of Barboursville, (+3) 73;
  • Boys 13-14: Evan Johnson of Greenup, Ky., (+8) 78;
  • Boys 15-16: Kelan Lucas of Ravenswood, (+2) 72;
