Callaway Junior Tour Rookie League sweeps North Central courses this week

The 2024 Callaway Junior Tour Rookie League, sponsored by Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal and hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), played at the Fairmont Field Club on Friday, June 21, and at Barbour Country Club on Saturday, June 22, as part of the North Central West Virginia swing.

“It is great to see 40 players in a Rookie League at a first-time location,” said WVGA Director of Junior Golf and Core Services Lucas Ware.  “Sarah Yost does wonderful things for Junior Golf in North Central West Virginia and her players showed up Friday.”

The CJRT Rookie League is broken into three divisions, based on skill and experience.

On Friday, June 21, the Callaway Junior Tour Rookie League played at Fairmont Field Club and featured a field of 40 golfers aged 5 to 18.  Division winners were:

  • AAA (nine holes): Connor Atkins of Fairmont at (+3) 38;
  • AA (nine holes):  Sawyer Sublett of Philippi at (+7) 42; and
  • A (six holes): Elliott Sublett of Philippi at (+3) 27.

“It’s our honor and pleasure to host young golfers and give them a challenging course,” said Fairmont’s Assistant Golf Professional Peyton Moore.  “We had amazing course conditions, cart path only, and had misting carts around the course to keep our golfers comfortable and safely.”

On Saturday, June 22, the Callaway Junior Tour Rookie League played at Barbour Country Club and featured a field of 21 golfers aged 5 to 18.  Division winners were:

  • AA (nine holes):  Sawyer Sublett of Philippi at (+1) 37; and
  • A (six holes): Elliott Sublett of Philippi at (-1) 23.

Barbour’s Dam Simon said, “We’re very excited to host a WVGA event, and especially the Rookie Tour.  We’re all dealing with the weather, bu the course is in good condition.  We had water all along the course and special bag lunches for participant at the end of the day.”

“Barbour Country Club was a great location to conclude this back-to-back swing on the Rookie League,” Ware said. “Dan Simon and the members who volunteered Saturday really rolled out the carpet for us and I cannot thank them enough.”
