34th WVGA Parent-Child Tournament ends first day with four-way tie for first

Round One has concluded at the 34th WV Parent/Child Championship, conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), at The Resort at Glade Springs. In a four-way tie after Round One are the father-son team of Jim and Adam Cyrus of Huntington, the father-son team of Tony and Jared Bryant of Bridgeport, the father-son team of Seth and Sam Kinker of Daniels and the father-son team of Hunter and John O’Neal of Bluefield, Va., all at 11 under par 61.

The Extended Family leaders are Luke and Clayton Thomas of Proctorville, Ohio, with an eight under par 64.  Leaders of the Mother-Child Division are Linda and Jared Taylor of Bluefield with a five under par 67

Gary Roush of Mason, W. Va. is playing in his 32nd Parent/Child Championship, with grandson Trenton!

“We look forward to this event every year and seeing families come to town to enjoy these two great courses,” said Glade Springs’ Head Golf Professional Kyle Long.

Other highlights of today’s play include 11 birdies each for leading teams Bryant, Cyrus and O’Neal, plus the team of Ben and Bob Ramsey of Bluefield, Va.

The 36-hole Championship featured a sold-out field of 238 players competing on the Glade Springs Resort’s Cobb Course and The Village at Glade Springs Stonehaven Course. The format is a two-person scramble and tees are based off each player’s age. Each team must count at least six tee shots from each team member. This Championship also features an Extended Family Division and a Mother-Child Division.
