Powers takes WVGA Senior Series Low Round at Fincastle Country Club Resort

Larry Powers of Craigsville took the Little General Stores Low Round of the Day at Tuesday’s Senior Series event, hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA) and sponsored by Little General Stores, at Fincastle Country Club with a five over par 75.

The West Virginia Senior Series, which is presented by Little General Stores and conducted by the WVGA, is for players ages 50 and up.  Thanks go to Chuck Workman of Appalachian Sport and Donnie Smith of Emergency Physicians Resource Organization for sponsoring our Diamond Division.  Overall, 51 players enjoyed today’s WVGA’s Senior Series event.  Categories are: Senior, 50-59; Silver, 60-69; Gold, 70-79; and Diamond, 80+.

In addition to Power winning the Silver Gross category on a scorecard playoff with Eddie Griffith of Chapmanville, other winners today were:

  • Senior Gross and Net: Stuart Scott of Beckley;
  • Silver Net: Bruce Hussell of Hartford;
  • Gold Gross: Eddie Griffith of Chapmanville; and
  • Gold Net: David Snyder of South Charleston.

Other highlights of the day saw six birdies for Billy Boggs of Inwood, five birdies and an eagle for Stuart Scott of Beckley, five birdies for Jason Camp of South Point, Ohio, and four birdies and an eagle for Maximillian Morris of Princeton.

“We always look forward to hosting WVGA and the Senior Series,” said Fincastle’s General Manager John O’Neal.  “The course was in excellent condition today and the greens were firm and fast.”

“The players had a great day across the border at Fincastle,” said WVGA Interim Executive Director Chris Slack.
