Callaway Junior Rookie League visits Black Knight Country Club

The Callaway Junior Tour Rookie League, sponsored by Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal and hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), played Saturday at Black Knight Country Club in Beckley.

The CJRT Rookie League is broken into three divisions, based on skill and experience.  Division winners today were:

  • AAA (nine holes): Anthony Lemons of Ronceverte;
  • AA (nine holes): Jacob Williams of Daniels; and
  • A (six holes): Corban Phillips of Morgantown.

“I want Black Knight to be connected to the youth golf community through events like this, First Tee, which we host, and eventually the GCSAA First Green program in middle schools,” said Black Knight’s Director of Golf Micah Davis. “There isn’t an abundance of events like this available in southern West Virginia, so we were excited and honored to be selected as a host site.  This course has a 100-plus-year rich golf history and once hosted exhibition matches between golf great Sam Snead and local professional Billy Capps.  It’s an honor for this event to be a part of that continuing history, and I hope the participants enjoyed competing here today.”

“It’s great to have an event at one of First Tee West Virginia’s program locations,” said WVGA Tournament Manager – Youth Operations Lucas Ware.  “Some of the players had never played tournament golf before and it was a great experience for them.”

The event, a partner of Callaway Golf and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association, featured a field of 20 golfers ages 5 to 16 from across West Virginia.
