WV Mid-Amateur Championship Nearly Set at The Pines in Morgantown

The West Virginia Mid-Amateur Championship, for golfers over 25, saw yesterday’s field 58 golfers cut to 16 on the second of three days of competition, hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), at The Pines Country Club in Morgantown.

Following the opening day’s stroke play round and Round of 32, in today’s Round of 16 action:

  • Christian Brand of Hurricane defeated Ryan Bashour of Morgantown, 2 and 1;
  • Cam Roam of Huntington defeated Tyler Hartzell of Fairmont, 4 and 2;
  • Brian Anania of Scott Depot defeated Drew Green of Beaver, 1 Up;
  • Woody Woodward of Bridgeport defeated Tyler Shamblin of Elkview, 3 and 2;
  • Noah Mullens of Milton defeated Josh Arbaugh of Morgantown, 4 and 3;
  • Will Koras of Morgantown defeated Bryan Myers of Wheeling, 5 and 3;
  • Ryan Mason of Morgantown defeated Adam Sholes of Charleston, 2 and 1; and
  • Cory Hoshor of Eleanor defeated Jared Taylor of Bluefield, 2 and 1.

In the quarterfinal round, Brand defeated Roam in 19 holes, Woodward defeated Anania 3 and 2, Mullens defeated Koras 3 and 1, and Mason defeated Hoshor 1 Up to set Thursday’s semi-final match and Championship.

“Our members are excited about our players on a course they know and, overall, we’re glad to host folks from around the state,” said The Pines’ Head Golf Professional Russell Reid.  “With the single-match elimination format, the player with the most skill should come out on top tomorrow.”
