WV Mid-Amateur Championship Opens at The Pines in Morgantown

The West Virginia Mid-Amateur Championship, for golfers over 25, saw 58 golfers tee off on the first of three days of competition, hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), at The Pines Country Club in Morgantown for the second consecutive year.

The stroke play round saw Christian Brand of Hurricane finish first at three under par (-3) 68, aided by four birdies and an eagle.  The remainder of the top finishers were:

  • (-1) 70: Noah Mullens of Milton and Ryan Mason of Morgantown;
  • (E) 71: Jess Ferrell of Fairmont and Nick Dent of White Sulphur Springs;
  • (+1) 72: Cory Hoshor of Eleanor and Tad Tomblin of Alum Creek; and
  • (+2) 73: Chris Daniels of Beckley, Cam Roam of Huntington, Will Koras of Morgantown, Isaac Prine of Morgantown, Davey Jude of Kermit and Brian Anania of Scott Depot.

In the Round of 32:

  • Christian Brand of Hurricane defeated Chad Griffith of Morgantown, 3 and 1;
  • Ryan Bashour of Morgantown defeated Mike Veres of Logan, 2 and 1;
  • Tyler Hartzell of Fairmont defeated Chris Daniels of Beckley, 3 and 2
  • Cam Roam of Huntington defeated Mitch Hoffman of Hurricane, 2 up;
  • Drew Green of Beave defeated Jess Ferrell of Fairmont, 4 and 3;
  • Brian Anania of Scott Depot defeated Buck Gower of Grafton, 8 and 6;
  • Tyler Shamblin of Elkview defeated Nick Dent of White Sulphur Springs, 2 and 1;
  • Woody Woodward of Bridgeport defeated Davey Jude of Kermit, 2 and 1;
  • Noah Mullens of Milton defeated Brian Kalar of Morgantown, 5 and 4;
  • Josh Arbaugh of Morgantown defeated Chris Bohach of Ona, 3 and 2;
  • Bryan Myers of Wheeling defeated Tad Tomblin of Alum Creek, 2 and 1;
  • Will Koras defeated Christian Casingal, both of Morgantown, 5 and 4;
  • Ryan Mason of Morgantown defeated Chuck Workman of Marlinton, 6 and 5;
  • Adam Sholes of Charleston defeated Brian Stuck of St. Albans in 21 holes;
  • Cory Hoshor of Eleanor defeated Mike Keiffer of Scott Depot, 3 and 2; and
  • Jared Taylor of Bluefield defeated Isaac Prine of Morgantown in 21 holes.

“The Pines is honored to host this prestigious event for the second consecutive year, and we’re excited people are coming back to our course,” said The Pines’ Head Golf Professional Russell Reid.  “The turf isn’t great, but the greens are perfect.”
