The 2025 Four-Ball Match Play Championship opened Friday at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association.
The two-day tournament featured 42 golfers on 21 teams playing one round of stroke play and four rounds of stroke play leading to the championship.
In stroke play qualifying, the team of Cory Hoshor of Eleanor and Davey Jude of Kermit took top honors, finishing at 10 under par (-10) 62. Rounding out the top five teams were:
- Noah Mullens of Milton and Clayton Thomas of Proctorville, Ohio, (-7) 65;
- Parker O’Dell and Isaac Hayes, both junior golfers from Hurricane, (-5) 67;
- Drew Green of Beaver and Drew Kane of Bridgeport, (-4) 68; and
- Cam Roam and Duncan Waugaman, both of Huntington, (-4) 68.
Going into the Round of 16 on Saturday, 11 teams earned byes. In the remaining matches,
- Mike Keiffer of Scott Depot and Jeff Whitman of Hurricane defeated Chris Hafner and Troy Markley, both of Martinsburg, 4 & 3;
- Nick Dent of White Sulphur Springs and Jeff McGraw of Princeton defeated Sam and John Alderman, both of Charleston, 3 & 1;
- Ben Carew of South Charleston and Will Gruse of Charleston defeated Brian Anania and Chris Williams, both of Scott Depot, 1Up;
- Tyler Shamblin of Elkview and Tad Tomblin of Alum Creek defeated Joseph Ranieri of Fairmont and Todd Westfall of Bridgeport, 1Up; and
- Hunter O’Neal and Brayden Surface, both of Bluefield, Va., defeated Eric Rogucki of Weston and Parson Kelley of Buckhannon, 6 & 5.
“We’re always excited to host a WVGA championship, especially a newer format like this tournament,” said Stonewall’s Head Golf Professional Mike Rogers. “In addition to a great golf event, we have ‘Parrots and Palm Trees,” a Jimmy Buffet-themed celebration throughout the weekend.”
“We’re looking forward to a really great weekend of golf, knowing ‘it’s five o’clock somewhere,’” said WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack.
