Andrew Pennybacker of Wheeling received the 2025 Larry Martin Sportsman of the Year Award from the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), as voted on by his peers and Tour administrators. This award is named after Larry Martin, known as “The Old Pro,” who founded the West Virginia Golf Association’s (WVGA) Junior Tour 42 years ago. Award eligibility is open to a boy or girl 18 and under who is a member of the 2025 Callaway Junior Rookie Tour (CJRT), demonstrates good sportsmanship on and off the golf course, embodies what it means to be a “good sport” and shows class at every golf course and demonstrates what it means to be a member of the Junior Tour. Pennybacker, playing in the Boys 17-18 Division, participated in seven events during the season, finishing in the top 10 at every tournament.
WVGA Director of Junior Golf and Core Services Lucas Ware said, “Andrew has displayed nothing but selflessness since I began working on the Callaway Junior Tour. He has always been honest and respectful in any conversation. I applaud him for his efforts and congratulate him on winning this award!”
At the end of the Callaway Junior Tour’s 27 events, Players of the Year were named in each category based on points earned during the season. The 2025 Players of the Year are:
- Boys 12 & Under: Anderson Lilly played in 12 events, placing first nine times, including a tie for first at the CJRT Tour Championship, second twice and third once for a total of 332.50 points. He had two Low Rounds of the Day for Boys.
- Boys 13-14: Jude Walker of Elizabeth played in 13 events, winning nine times, including two ties, placing second three times and third once for a total of 347.50 points. He had two Low Rounds of the Day for Boys.
- Boys 15-16: Wyatt Maynard of Barboursville played in 10 events, winning three times, placing second twice and third three times, plus a sixth place and ninth place finish, for a total of 190.17 points.
- Boys 17-18: Justus Mann of Chapmanville played in 10 events, winning two events, including the CJRT Tour Championship, and placing second twice, third twice, fourth once, fifth twice and seventh once for a total of 186.50.
- Girls 10-14: Valentina Aguilar of Elkins, the 2024 Player of the Year, played in 11 events, placing first every time for a total of 345 points.
- Girls 15-18: Isabelle Studli of Fairfield, Pa., played in 13 events, winning 10, including the CJRT Tour Championship, second twice and third once, for a total of 354.17 points. She had seven Low Rounds of the Day for Girls.
