Stonewall Resort Hosts 70th U.S. Senior Amateur Qualifier

Trent Gregory of North Carolina was the sole qualifier in today’s 18-hole 70th U.S. Senior Amateur Qualifier at Stonewall Resort with a three under par (-3) 69.

Arnold Cutrell and Robert Stoops, both of Pa., were the two alternates.  Cutrell finished at even par (E) 72, while Stoops finished at two over par (+2) 74.

The West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), in support and collaboration with the United States Golf Association (USGA), conducted the 70th U.S. Senior Amateur Championship qualifier.  The Championship is scheduled for Aug. 23 to 25 at Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Tx.

“We’re honored to be a host site with so many golfers from outside West Virginia.  They got a good test on a great course that was in terrific condition and getting better all the time,” said Stonewall’s Head Golf Professional Mike Rogers.  “We were hoping to get a qualifier and eventual winner so we could say, ‘it all started here.’  We are proud of Van Stemple of Shepherdstown, Michael Koreski of Parkersburg, and Mike Boggs of Hedgesville, each of whom tied for seventh at six over par (+6) 78.”

“We are honored to play host to one of the 50 qualifiers across the country,” said WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack.  “I’m always amazed to see where our participants call home.  In today’s field, players called nine states home including West Virginia, plus Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.  We’re glad for the chance to let this field of 15 players experience at least a part of West Virginia’s beauty and hospitality.”
