Men’s Seniors and Women share Scrambles at Cacapon Resort State Park

The 2025 West Virginia Two-Senior Scramble Championship teed off the first morning at Cacapon Resort State Park in Berkeley Springs, hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA).

In the Championship Flight, the team of Chuck Workman of Marlinton and Jeff Harper of Coolville, Ohio, took a commanding six-stroke lead over the other nine teams in the flight, finishing the first day at 11 under par (-11) 61.

The First Flight for the event featured 10 teams, with three in a tie for the lead at the end of day one.  Coming in at one under par (-1) 71 were the teams of:

  • Buddy Butler of Williamstown and Scott Cozzens of Vincent, Ohio;
  • Jerry McKisic and Steve Hollen, both of Buckhannon; and
  • Bill Bonifant of Martinsburg and Tom Leslie of Berkeley Springs.

The 2025 West Virginia Two-Woman Scramble Championship teed off the first afternoon at Cacapon Resort State Park in Berkeley Springs, hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA).

In the Championship Flight, the team of Kimberly Eaton of Charles Town and Karen Kinnett of Shepherdstown opened a five-stroke lead over the other three teams, finishing the first day at one over par (+1) 73.

The team of Claytina Shepherd of Beckley and Kathy Thompson of Summersville finished the first day of competition in First Flight with a six-stroke lead over the other two teams, finishing at 10 over par (+10) 82.

There were seven teams in this event.

Cacapon’s Head Golf Professional Monty Goff said, “While an EPA convention took all our lodge rooms, our superintendent has completely turned this course around in the last two and a half years and we’re excited to show it off to the WVGA golfers.”

“We are pleased are happy to be back here at Cacapon, where the course is in great condition,” said WVGA’s Director of Women’s Golf and One Day Events Sarah Cole.  “The players battled through cold rain this morning, but the sun broke through and gave way to better scores.”
