The first of two Junior Match Play qualifiers for players under 18, conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), took place Saturday at Big Bend Golf Course in Tornado. A field of 38 players competed for three qualifying spots for girls and nine for boys, with an alternate in each group. The first qualifier saw nine boys, with one alternate, and three girls move to the Junior Match Play Championship which is set for May 10 and 11 at the Parkersburg Country Club.
Girls qualifying today for the Championship are:
- Madilyn Buttrey of Williamstown, (+17) 88;
- Lexi Green of Charleston, (+19) 90; and
- Scarlett Albertson of Charleston, (+23) 94.
Boys qualifying for the Championship are:
- Will Gruse of Charleston, (-1) 70
- Tyler Beard of Lewisburg, (-1) 70;
- Stephen McDavid of Scott Depot, (E) 71;
- Justus Mann of Chapmanville, (+2) 73;
- Carson Sergent of Huntington, (+2) 73;
- Isaac Hutchison of Lewisburg, (+2) 73;
- Kellen Pauley of Hurricane, (+2) 73;
- Wyatt Maynard of Barboursville, (+3) 74; and
- Isaac Hayes of Hurricane, (+3) 74.
The first alternate is Malachi Flohr of Daniels.
